Veteran Congress Leader, Former West Bengal Governor D.Y. Patil Passes Away at 92
- On Tuesday, senior Congress leader and former governor Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil passed away at his residence in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, at age 90, family sources said.
- Born in Ambap in 1935, Patil served as mayor of Kolhapur from 1957 to 1962 and was elected as an MLA from the Panhala constituency in 1967 and 1972.
- Widely recognized in Maharashtra as "Shikshanmaharshi," Patil founded the D.Y. Patil Group, which operates more than 182 educational institutions, seven universities, and several healthcare facilities across India.
- A 1991 Padma Shri awardee, Patil served as governor of Tripura from November 2009 to March 2013 and Bihar from March 2013 to November 2014, with additional charge of West Bengal in July 2014.
- Patil is survived by four sons and a daughter, including Satej Patil and Dr. Sanjay Patil, who remain active in education and healthcare sectors, continuing his institutional network.
