Vernon Pride Society announces full lineup of events for annual weeklong celebration

The celebration includes a Pride March, Pride in the Park and community events aimed at visibility, inclusion and support for 2SLGBTQIA+ residents.

  • On Monday, the Vernon Pride Society raised a pride flag at Vernon City Hall, officially launching a week of festivities supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
  • While Pride Week features lighthearted celebrations, the opening ceremony took a serious tone as speakers delivered messages of inclusivity alongside sharp political criticism.
  • Vernon-Lumby MLA Harwinder Sandhu criticized Kerry-Lynne Findlay, calling campaign promises to repeal SOGI123 a "load of BS and misinformation." Sandhu said her three children learned to be "kind, loving, accepting and caring" in schools with SOGI in place.
  • Events range from Tuesday, June 2's "Human Library" at Cheek Dance Studio to Thursday, June 4's Two-Spirit, Trans & Non-Binary Storytelling Night at Caetani Cultural Centre.
  • Festivities conclude Sunday, June 7, with a Pride Picnic at Kin Beach running from noon to 5 p.m., marking the community's week-long commitment to visibility and inclusion.
