Johnnie To, 5 More Join Maggie Gyllenhaal on Venice Film Festival Jury
The jury will award the Golden Lion and six other prizes as Venice’s 83rd edition runs Sept. 2-12.
- The Venice Film Festival announced its international jury for the 83rd edition, with President Maggie Gyllenhaal leading the panel tasked with selecting this year's Golden Lion winner.
- Joining Gyllenhaal are seven jurors: Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To, French director Xavier Giannoli, Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat, British composer Daniel Blumberg, and Italian film scholar Francesco Casetti.
- Ben Hania returns to the Lido after winning the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize last year, while To serves on the jury again nearly two decades after his 2008 appearance.
- The panel will award the festival's main competition prizes, including the Golden Lion for Best Film, the Silver Lion for Best Director, and the Coppa Volpi for best acting categories.
- Artistic Director Alberto Barbera will oversee the festival from September 2-12, 2026, as the event grapples with studio retrenchment trends similar to those observed at Cannes.
