Venezuela Opposition Leader Machado Says Won't Take Part in U.S.-Backed Talks
Machado said the opposition will not help shape the August talks and demanded that sponsors explain their goals, methods and timeline.

- In mid-July, the interim government of Rodriguez and former Parliament members announced a work plan for "strengthening democracy," though Machado stated it is not her place to explain its scope and decisions.
- Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who ran for president in 2024, co-signed the statement noting the Opposition would "not participate" in the "design, development and operation" of the talks.
- Despite opting out, Machado said on Sunday she would not stand in the way "of any initiative that would produce real progress," and vowed: "We will return to Venezuela."
- Washington, which ousted former President Nicolas Maduro in January, previously hailed the initiative. Exiled figure Dinorah Figuera visited Caracas in June, reflecting complex Opposition dynamics.
