- On Tuesday night, the Railway Board put the planned March 1 extension of the Vande Bharat Express to Jammu Tawi on hold after Northern Railways announced it earlier.
- Aiming to boost connectivity and tourism, officials proposed running the train between Jammu and Srinagar with a 20-coach rake from March 1, as Singhal said the current eight-car Vande Bharat will be upgraded.
- Service details show the train with 20 coaches can carry over 1,440 passengers, up from approximately 530 with eight, and the journey takes 4.55 hours.
- Residents of Jammu and Srinagar welcomed the direct Vande Bharat link as faster travel, while Northern Railways spokesperson said official updates will follow and regretted the inconvenience.
- The Jammu railway division, inaugurated in January 2025, has expanded freight with a horticulture corridor moving over 20,000 tonnes of apples, reflecting broader rail growth.
