Vancouver turns its Science World museum into a giant 17-story soccer ball for the World Cup
The museum also hosts a FIFA Museum exhibit and has seen a surge in visitors as broadcasters and social media spotlight the installation.
Vancouver transformed its downtown Science World museum into a giant 17-story soccer ball for the World Cup, turning the geodesic dome into a replica ball near BC Place stadium.
Adidas, the designer of the World Cup's official match ball, approved the creation of this large-scale replica.
The soccer ball panels were made pliable, numbered for exact placement, and installed with special ties to allow slight movement in the wind.
During the World Cup, Science World remains a museum and features a special exhibit called Soccer and Technology from the FIFA Museum.
