Butchart Gardens Cancels Fireworks as Province Declares Wildfire Emergency

The Vancouver Canadians announced on Tuesday the cancellation of their postgame fireworks extravaganza scheduled for Aug 15, citing British Columbia's provincial state of emergency and the need to redirect resources to combat wildfires.
According to The Canadian Press, seven of the province's 10 worst wildfire seasons have occurred within the last 10 years, with residents of Summerland and Penticton hit hardest by wildfires ravaging British Columbia.
The Butchart Gardens in Central Saanich also cancelled its weekend fireworks due to the provincial state of emergency, as local firefighters are redirected to address the ongoing wildfire crisis.
Although the fireworks show is cancelled, The Canadians confirmed a performance by The Temps will continue at 7:30 p.m., with yearlong passes honoured for the game despite the sudden change.
Aug 27 marks the next fireworks extravaganza on the calendar, while Toronto Blue Jays top prospect JoJo Parker is slated to debut with the Vancouver Canadians shortly and Night illuminations at The Butchart Gardens continue through Sept 15.
