Vancouver Building Valued at $13M Gifted to Support Youth with Mental Health, Substance Use Issues
The $13 million gift will double Foundry’s space, addressing urgent youth mental health and overdose issues in B.C. where one in four youths face challenges, officials said.
- On Jan. 8, 2026, a private foundation donated a four-storey building at 1220 Homer St., Yaletown, valued at more than $13.8 million, to St. Paul’s Foundation for Foundry.
- Facing escalating youth mental-health challenges, the private foundation, the donor, made the gift at a critical moment as toxic drug overdoses lead deaths for youth aged 10 to 19 in B.C.
- St. Paul’s Foundation will lead fundraising over the next year to raise $7 million, backed by the B.C. government’s $1.5 million and federal Youth Mental Health Fund support for the renovation project.
- Foundry will use the new space to expand services for youth aged 12 to 24 and co-locate research and evaluation teams; Amanda Horne said the expansion means more than bricks and mortar.
- The Yaletown property has a notable history and prior tenant, with BC Assessment listing it at $7,500,000, while Foundry says the donor bought it last year for over $13.
