Valentino mixes 80s and Baroque splendour on Rome return
Valentino’s fall/winter 2026-27 show featured 1980s styles with Baroque elements and was attended by 700 guests, marking the first ready-to-wear event since founder’s January 2026 death.
- On Thursday, Italian fashion house Valentino returned to Rome with an 1980s-inspired catwalk for its fall/winter 2026-27 ready-to-wear collection, staged at the Palazzo Barberini under Pietro da Cortona's ceiling fresco.
- Creative director Alessandro Michele chose Rome to debut the collection titled 'Interferenze,' exploring contrasts between 'code and deviation' and 'lightness and gravity' inspired by late 1980s themes of 'positivity' and 'empowerment.'
- Male and female models walked onto fake grass in 1980s silhouettes featuring strong shoulders, cinched waists and mini-skirts accessorized with giant pearls and chunky pendants, culminating in a longsleeved red gown.
- Around 700 invited guests including Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow attended the black-tie show, with 200 journalists and VIPs; Valentino broadcast the presentation live across Rome, Milan and Naples.
- Valentino faces slowing demand and inflation while navigating creative transition under Mayhoola's 70 percent ownership and Kering's 30 percent stake, with hopes that Michele—who transformed Gucci—will reshape the brand.
