India's 15-Year-Old Batting Sensation Sooryavanshi Makes Senior Debut Against England
The 15-year-old opener broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record after earning his maiden cap and joined India’s playing XI for the second T20I.
On Saturday, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi debuted for India against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, becoming India's 122nd men's T20I player and surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record as the country's youngest international cricketer.
Sooryavanshi earned his senior call-up following a stellar year in the Indian Premier League, where he finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer with a strike rate exceeding 237 and hit 72 sixes.
England captain Harry Brook confirmed his team prepared tactical responses to the debutant's threat, saying, "Done some homework on Vaibhav, we have some tactical decisions. Just a matter of executing now."
India captain Shreyas Iyer backed the teenager after winning the toss, stating, "He completely deserves to be in the squad," and praised his composure under pressure in competitive cricket.
At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi eclipsed Tendulkar's 1989 debut record—Tendulkar was 16 when he debuted against Pakistan—positioning the young batter as a central figure in India's long-term international cricket strategy.
