420 years ago, on Tuesday, November 5, 1605, an unsuccessful assassination attempt on King James I of England took place in London. The event went down in history as the Gunpowder Plot. Its memory gave rise to the English autumn folk festival, named after the most famous conspirator, Guy Fawkes Night, and also inspired the creation of the comic book and film V for Vendetta. A mask from this work is now used by activists of the group Anonymous.
