UW Police investigate homicide at off-campus student apartments
Police are searching for an armed suspect after a 19-year-old student was fatally stabbed, and residents were told to shelter in place.
On Sunday night, Seattle Police Department officers responded to a stabbing at the off-campus Nordheim Court Apartments, where they found a 19-year-old University of Washington student dead in a laundry room.
Authorities are searching for a man described as 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 tall with a slim build, black hair, and a beard, who police said should be considered "armed and dangerous."
Seattle Police Department Detective Eric Muñoz stated the victim is "believed to be a 19-year-old transgender female," though the King County Medical Examiner has not yet released official identity confirmation.
Residents were initially ordered to remain indoors but were told just before 1 a.m. Monday they no longer needed to shelter in place, though the death investigation remains active and ongoing.
The University of Washington called the incident "deeply distressing" and is providing support through the UW Counseling Center, SafeCampus, and the Washington State Employee Assistance Program.
