Firefighters lost ground on the Monroe Canyon Fire near Richfield on Friday, as it went from 11% contained to 7% and jumped over state Route 24. The road has since reopened, but officials expect more closures, as well as power outages, through the weekend.
Utah governor declares month-long state of emergency due to intensifying wildfires
MONROE, Utah — Utah is under a 30-day state of emergency as crews continue battling the Monroe Canyon wildfire and the other large fires that have burned so far in 2025. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed the State of Emergency declaration on Thursday, due to the escalating wildfires across the state. The Monroe Canyon Fire, which began July 13 near Monroe, Utah, has so far burned more than 57,000 acres and is only 4% contained, according to InciWeb. …
