USS Pierre — the last of the Navy’s troubled Independence class of littoral combat ships — has passed its sea trials and will be commissioned in San Diego this fall, the Navy says. The Pierre was built in Mobile, Ala., by Austal USA, which recently tested the ship under the guidance of the Navy.
