USPS to raise Forever stamp prices again; here’s by how much
Starting Sunday, July 12, the USPS will increase the price of a Forever stamp to 82 cents from 78 cents, marking the second consecutive year of significant price hikes.
Facing a "severe financial crisis," the USPS has operated at a loss for a decade; the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, passed by Congress, mandates expensive retiree health benefit prepayments.
Overall, the USPS says it is raising product prices by about 4.8%, with Domestic postcards increasing to 65 cents and international letters to $1.75.
The Postal Regulatory Commission approved these adjustments in May; the USPS stated it is using "all available tools" to fulfill its universal service obligation and serve the American public.
Since their 2007 introduction at 41 cents, The Forever stamp price has now doubled, though stamps bought at 78 cents or less remain valid for use.
