Some USPS Parcel Prices Could Rise for the Holiday Rush

The temporary hike affects Ground Advantage, Priority Mail and other services, with some shipments rising by as much as $10.50, USPS said.

  • On Tuesday, the United States Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission proposing a 6% average rate increase for package shipping during the 2026 holiday peak season.
  • The Postal Service intends to use temporary rate adjustments to offset higher handling and operational costs associated with managing increased package volume during holiday peak shipping demand.
  • These rate changes, pending regulatory approval, affect Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select shipments, exceeding the 4.9% to 5.8% average increases from 2025.
  • Pending favorable review, the temporary rates will take effect on October 4 and remain in place until January 17, 2027, bringing prices in line with "competitive practices."
  • FedEx has already announced its 2026 peak-season fees, while OnTrac will increase surcharges from October 24 through January 15, 2027; as of Wednesday, UPS has not yet announced its schedule.
