USA Football selects 2025 flag football roster as NFL considers allowing players to play at Olympics
- USA Football selected its 12-player men’s and women’s national flag football teams for 2025 to compete in international championships.
- This comes after NFL owners met in Minnesota this week to consider a proposal that would permit contract players to take part in Olympic flag football competition.
- Both the men’s and women’s teams will participate in the IFAF Americas Championship held in Panama this September, while the women’s squad is additionally scheduled to compete at the World Games taking place in Chengdu, China, in August.
- Scott Hallenbeck, USA Football CEO, said the organization is thrilled the proposal will be discussed and stands ready to include NFL players if approved.
- If at least 24 of the 32 NFL owners agree, discussions may begin involving the NFL Players Association and Olympic organizations about allowing NFL players to compete in flag football at the Olympics, which could help expand the sport’s popularity.
