Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Trump administration will significantly reduce vehicle fuel economy standards. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's proposal will set the fleet average at 34.5 miles per gallon by 2031, well below the Biden administration's target of 50.4 miles per gallon. Duffy defended the decision, saying, "We want Detroit to produce cars that Americans want to buy."
