US teens are smoking and vaping less than their peers abroad
Smoking and vaping among U.S. middle and high school students declined in 2025, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 2025 National Youth Tobacco Survey released in July 2026.
Smoking among U.S. youth is at a historic low of 1.4%, marking a decrease in the leading cause of preventable death and disease.
Nicotine vape or e-cigarette use among U.S. youth dropped to 5.2% in 2025, the lowest rate since its 2019 peak.
U.S. youth have lower e-cigarette use rates compared to peers in Canada, Germany, the U.K., and the Netherlands.
