US Space Force to Field Satellite Jammers Targeting China

  • The U.S. Space Force is preparing to deploy two new weapons that temporarily block Chinese and Russian intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance satellites, joining the Counter Communications System to give the Pentagon three counter-space capabilities.
  • Facing a larger Chinese satellite fleet, the U.S. Space Force cites more than 1,189 satellites as of July, including over 510 used by the PLA for intelligence and surveillance.
  • L3Harris's Meadowlands is undergoing final testing with live-fire exercises and mission rehearsals, expanding frequency range, lighter weight, and passing a baseline CCS upgrade verification review on April 8.
  • The systems can be dispersed globally and operated remotely, giving U.S. forces greater flexibility to counter a rapidly expanding Chinese space threat.
  • Bloomberg reported the Pentagon plans to acquire up to 32 Meadowlands systems, converting legacy units with two delivered last week for testing and contracts for more than 20 platforms.
