U.S. Smokeless Tobacco to Shutter Nashville Plant After More than a Century
The project would nearly double USSTC’s Kentucky workforce and shift production from Nashville to a newer 270,000-square-foot facility.
On Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear announced USSTC plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, expected to create approximately 230 jobs.
This facility consolidates operations currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, onto Weyman Way to reduce fixed costs and generate operational savings.
USSTC President and CEO Michael Brace stated the project modernizes the company's manufacturing footprint, with production at the Nashville plant expected to conclude in early 2028.
Severance packages and transition assistance will be offered to Nashville employees, while the company encourages staff to apply for open positions in Richmond, Virginia, or Kentucky.
Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam and Hopkinsville Mayor James welcomed the investment, noting USSTC has maintained a presence in Hopkinsville for more than 100 years.
