- The investigation began in January following a complaint from the Fresh Mushrooms Fair Trade Coalition, with Giorgio Mushroom CEO Mark Currie alleging that "unfairly subsidized mushroom imports" have pressured domestic producers for years.
- Mushrooms Canada CEO Ryan Koeslag rejected the findings, stating that "treating broad-based agricultural tax measures as unfair subsidies is contrary to common sense," while Champ's Fresh Farms Inc. faces 1.62 per cent tariffs and Farmers' Fresh Mushrooms Inc. faces 4.97 per cent.
- Separate anti-dumping duties are expected later this month as the Commerce investigation continues, and the Canadian industry may challenge these countervailing duties through the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, or CUSMA.
