U.S. rescues missing crew member in Iran after fighter jet shot down
The rescue used dozens of aircraft and special operations forces, and Trump said the injured airman will be just fine.
- On Sunday, U.S. forces rescued the missing weapons systems officer from an F-15E Strike Eagle shot down over Iran on Friday. President Donald Trump confirmed the aviator is injured but "will be just fine."
- The F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down Friday during military operations over Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed credit for the downing and offered a bounty for the missing crew member.
- Helicopters carrying rescue teams took small-arms fire from local tribesmen in the mountainous region. Air Force Pararescuemen equipped with GPS trackers and encrypted radios located the aviator hiding in the "treacherous mountains."
- President Trump renewed threats against Iran, demanding the Strait of Hormuz reopen by April 6 or face "all Hell will reign down." Tehran dismissed the ultimatum as "unbalanced and foolish."
- Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told The Associated Press ceasefire efforts are "right on track." Israel is reportedly preparing to attack Iranian energy facilities next week, pending U.S. approval.
