US rejects UN shipping net-zero plan, warns of retaliation against supporters
The US warned of retaliation against supporters of the IMO's Net-Zero Framework, while 63 member states including China and the EU back the plan to cut shipping emissions.

- Environmental NGOs condemned the US position, warning that delay risks undermining climate targets, and critics said the threat of retaliation will add difficulties to the October meeting.
- The October decision requires a two-thirds majority of 108 of the 176 IMO member states, and if adopted, the tax would go into effect in 2028.
