- On Monday, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau called asylum a "loophole to circumvent immigration law," citing instances of foreigners using tourist visas to enter before applying for asylum.
- The State Department is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security to identify affected visa holders, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said. Revocations would not necessarily trigger immediate deportation, though pending asylum applicants would lose nonimmigrant status.
