US mediators on Ukraine war expected in Russia: Kremlin
- On Sunday, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov announced that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, will visit Moscow "fairly soon" to resume mediation talks.
- The ongoing three-day ceasefire, which began Friday, aims to facilitate rapid resumption of United States mediation efforts, according to Ushakov.
- Despite the truce, the Russian Defence Ministry reported more than 16,000 ceasefire violations on Sunday, while Ukraine's general staff documented 150 Russian attacks and the downing of 27 drones.
- Five people, including two children, were injured in Kharkiv after a drone strike, as Ushakov reiterated Russia's demand that Ukraine withdraw from the Donbas region for peace.
- Witkoff and Kushner have previously mediated talks between Russia and Ukraine without securing a breakthrough, though Ushakov noted their experience in Middle East conflict negotiations.
