2 Washington Children Who Had Been Missing Since 2023 Found in Virginia
Investigators said the mother lost custody and hid the children’s names, and the U.S. Marshals have recovered 5,281 missing children since 2015.
- On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Marshals Service announced recovery of two "critically missing" children from Redmond who were located on Sept. 16 and returned to their father.
- In early August 2026, the Redmond Police Department and the National Center and Exploited Children requested USMS assistance after the mother lost custody and allegedly concealed the children's names to evade law enforcement.
- Members of the USMS MCU tracked the children across three states, working with the Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Baltimore County Police Department, and the Arlington Police Department.
- Since the 2015 passage of the JVTA, the Marshals Service has contributed to recovery of 5,281 missing children, with the act enhancing Marshals authority to assist law enforcement regardless of fugitive involvement.
