U.S. Government Moves $103 Million in Seized Bitcoin and BNB, Sending BTC to Coinbase Prime
On-chain analysts said the transfers could be custody moves, but no federal agency has announced a sale.
- On Tuesday, government-linked wallets transferred more than $100 million in crypto, including 833.6 BTC worth $71.56 million and 40,285 BNB valued at $31.63 million, according to blockchain intelligence firm Arkham.
- The Bitcoin was sent to Coinbase Prime while BNB passed through multiple addresses to an unlabeled wallet. EmberCN data confirms the BTC reached the custody platform, though this does not establish whether a sale occurred.
- President Donald Trump signed an executive order in March 2025 establishing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and Digital Asset Stockpile. Bitcoin deposited into the reserve "shall not be sold," though the restriction excludes other cryptocurrencies like BNB.
- "A transfer is not the same as a sale," market commentator Jose Rosell said on X. The U.S. Marshals Service uses Coinbase Prime for custody, and no federal agency has announced a sale connected to the transfer.
- Government-Linked addresses still hold around $28 billion in digital assets, with Bitcoin accounting for most of the total. The Treasury determines management strategies for non-Bitcoin assets, including the BNB recently moved from Alameda Research holdings.
