Rome Gears up for Holy Year's Monumental Catholic Youth Rally in Scorching Temperatures
METROPOLITAN CITY OF ROME, LAZIO, JUL 22 – The Jubilee of Youth will include 70 events and extensive security with 4,000 police and thousands of volunteers supporting 500,000 pilgrims from 146 countries, Archbishop Fisichella said.
- On July 28, Rome will host a weeklong Jubilee of Youth with over half a million attendees from 146 countries, during the Vatican's Holy Year, according to officials.
- In communion with past gatherings, the event forms part of the Vatican’s 2025 Holy Year, reflecting its link to Catholic tradition.
- To ensure safety and comfort, officials coordinated security with four thousand police and firefighters, plus Spanish, French and Polish law enforcement agencies, and arranged cooling with giant water cannons, all to protect pilgrims.
- Officials noted, `the program will feature the Aug. 2-3 vigil and Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV`, while `in communion with all of them, because it is for them above all that hope is offered today`, implying a focus on spiritual unity and renewal.
- Meanwhile, expected heat between 32C to 34C will heighten health and cooling challenges, putting pressure on Rome’s public services.
