SIG SAUER Announces U.S. Army Designates Type Classification Milestone for the NGSW Lethality Program
- The U.S. Army designated Type Classification- Standard to the SIG SAUER NGSW M7 rifle and M250 automatic rifle on May 20, 2025, in Newington, N.H.
- This designation followed a 27-month prototype phase and extensive testing that began with the NGSW Program initiated in 2017.
- The M7 serves as the successor to the M4 carbine, while the M250 takes over from the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon; both new systems deliver enhanced range and lethality compared to previous models.
- Steve Rose, EVP of the Defense Strategies Group, stated that the decision highlights the U.S. Army’s dedication to providing soldiers with advanced lethality capabilities to ensure tactical dominance and mission effectiveness.
