France is starting vaccination of almost 285 000 cattle to stop the spread of contagious nodular dermatosis in the Alps, the Ministry of Agriculture announced, with first operations taking place as early as Friday, according to Savoie Prefecture.

The nodular dermatosis vaccine, a disease that currently affects cattle, arrived in Savoie this Friday. The farms near the outbreaks of contamination will receive it as soon as possible in the next few days.

The contagious nodular dermatosis (CND), a disease affecting cattle, first appeared in France at the end of June. This new scourge, which threatens an already tried French herd, has led to radical measures: the total slaughter of infected households, compensation for herders and compulsory vaccination. A solution that has provoked anger among some herders.
