Report: Urban Meyer Loses Grievance over Jags' Firing
The ruling lets Jacksonville keep more than $30 million after an arbitrator upheld Meyer’s firing for cause, according to Brett McMurphy.
The Jacksonville Jaguars won their arbitration case against Urban Meyer, with arbitrators upholding the team's decision to fire him "for cause."
Meyer's firing stemmed from a December report that he kicked kicker Josh Lambo during practice, prompting the team to terminate him "for cause" less than 24 hours later.
During arbitration, punter Logan Cooke and Lambo testified for the team. Lambo stated: "Truthfully, I'd register it as a five . Which in the workplace, the boss can't strike an employee."
Meyer attempted to collect over $30 million remaining on his contract. Jacksonville owner Shad Khan will now retain those funds instead of paying the former coach.
Meyer's 11-month tenure ended with a 2-11 record. The Jaguars have since thrived under Doug Pederson and Liam Coen, winning the AFC South in consecutive seasons.
JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) — Former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer lost his multimillion-dollar arbitration case against the NFL team that fired him for cause in 2021, according to a person familiar with the matter.
