Upgraded boardwalk puts Langley park visitors at centre of river

The $2 million project adds 3-metre boardwalks and larger viewing platforms, improving access through the wetlands for visitors and school groups.

  • Following a year-long replacement project, the longest boardwalk in Campbell Valley Regional Park is now open to the public, serving as a primary attraction on the Little River Loop trail in South Langley.
  • Construction on the $2 million project occurred between late summer 2025 and this past winter, replacing the aging southern boardwalk and upgrading trails leading to the loop.
  • Three metres wide, the new boardwalk features a substructure designed to last 75 years and withstand a one-in-200-years flooding event.
  • Jeffrey Fitzpatrick, manager of regional park design and development, noted the fully accessible design is "super family friendly," with larger viewing platforms providing visitors an up-close look at the wetlands.
  • With Campbell Valley Regional Park attracting up to 1 million visitors annually, Fitzpatrick said the increased size will allow more school programs and youth groups to utilize the site.
