Fannie Nkosi Denied Bail After Dockets, Ammo and R52k Found at His Home
The magistrate found Nkosi could endanger witnesses and interfere with evidence as he faces serious charges, the National Prosecuting Authority said.
- The Pretoria North Magistrate's Court denied bail to SAPS Sergeant Fannie Nkosi on Wednesday. Magistrate Thandi Theledi ruled that Nkosi failed to prove his release serves the interests of justice, citing risks of flight and witness interference.
- Following his identification as a person of interest by the Madlanga Commission, police arrested Nkosi at his home on April 2, 2026. Officers discovered improperly stored firearms, a stun grenade, and police dockets related to cash-in-transit heists during the raid.
- Prosecutors alleged Nkosi, 43, possessed dockets that gave "rise to an inference of defeating or obstructing the administration of justice." Officers also found more than R50,000 in cash hidden beneath a mattress, which he could not explain.
- Magistrate Theledi remanded Nkosi in custody until May 21, 2026, to allow for further investigations. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana welcomed the decision, stating it supports the criminal justice system.
- The Madlanga Commission recently scrutinized Nkosi's communication with suspended Tshwane Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi regarding tender bids. Investigators presented text messages suggesting requests for preferential treatment for security companies, including one owned by Nkosi's brother.
