David Bowie's V&A Archive to Go on Tour Across the UK
The touring exhibition includes about 100 archive items, with costumes, instruments and film artefacts, as the V&A expands access to Bowie’s legacy nationwide.
On Wednesday, the Victoria and Albert Museum announced a national tour of its David Bowie archive, bringing 100 items related to the iconic star to venues across the UK for the first time.
The V&A's David Bowie archive, acquired in 2024, comprises more than 90,000 items spanning his career, from iconic costumes to handwritten lyrics and personal papers. V&A Touring and V&A National Programmes developed the exhibition in collaboration with partner venues.
Touring highlights include Ziggy Stardust-era costumes, a 1988 British passport, and unseen Polaroids, with the program launching at V&A Dundee this November before visiting Blackpool's Showtown, the Bowes Museum, the Ferens Art Gallery, and Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
V&A Director Sir Tristram Hunt called the project a "landmark national partnership," while Spencer Phillips, Chairman of the Blackpool Heritage and Museum Trust, noted the 2027 stop coincides with the 60th anniversary of Bowie's first resort performance.
This initiative expands on the David Bowie Centre's opening at the V&A East Storehouse last September, fulfilling the museum's commitment to ensuring audiences across the UK can experience national collections where they live.
