Five people were arrested on Wednesday evening during a protest against the arrival of an asylum seekers' center in Didam. According to the municipality of Montferland, this happened because they had set off flares and/or fireworks. PVV leader Geert Wilders also addressed those present at the demonstration, reports De Gelderlander.
The police arrested five people at the largely peaceful asylum protest in Didam. They were apprehended for setting off fireworks. In addition, a group of people was barred from the village. "It was suspected that they intended to disrupt public order," said a police spokesperson.
