New 'likely scam' tag for texts comes into effect
A new 'likely scam' label will from today be added to text messages which mobile phone users receive from companies or organisations that have not yet registered with the Commission for Communications Regulation, in a bid to protect mobile users from falling victim to scams.
People in Wandsworth are being warned about car parking scam texts.
There are reports of fraudulent text messages circulating which demand payment for parking Penalty Charge Notices. The council states it will never send PCN payment requests via text. Residents should not pay or share bank details if they receive such messages and are being advised to delete them immediately. Official fines should be paid through the council’s designated channels.
