Israeli Fire Again Kills Gaza Aid-Seekers as US Envoy Meets with Hostages' Families
GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE, AUG 01 – The United Nations reports most of the 1,373 Palestinians killed since late May were shot by Israeli forces near aid sites or convoy routes amid severe shortages.
- On Friday, the UN human rights office reported that since late May, at least 1,373 Palestinians have been killed while waiting for aid in the Gaza Strip, most of them by the Israeli military.
- Due to a nearly two-year blockade on Gaza, Israeli restrictions on aid entry have caused shortages, beginning to ease in late May with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's operations.
- Gaza's civil defence agency said Friday that 11 people were killed by Israeli gunfire and air strikes near aid sites, and between July 30 and 31, 105 Palestinians were killed and at least 680 injured along convoy roads.
- Despite calls for at least 500 trucks, Friday's aid distribution by UN and international organizations was over 200, according to COGAT.
- The general commissioner of UNRWA stated he urges opening level passages, as trucks carry twice as much aid as planes and paratrooper drops are costly and ineffective.
