SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – July 1 marked the 163rd birthday of the Union Pacific Railroad. On that date in 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the historic Pacific Railway Act, which authorized the construction of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad.
