INDIA, AUG 12 – The projects, backed by investments of around ₹4,594 crore, include the first commercial silicon carbide fab and aim to generate over 2,000 skilled jobs, officials said.
- On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Union Cabinet approved four semiconductor projects worth Rs 4,594 crore, according to Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
- Under the India Semiconductor Mission, the ISM has backed six chip plants under a Rs 76,000 crore scheme, which produce 24 billion chips annually.
- In Bhubaneswar, SiCSem Pvt Ltd will establish an integrated silicon carbide compound semiconductor facility with 60,000 wafers annual capacity and 96 million units packaging capacity.
- According to a Cabinet communique, the four projects are expected to generate employment for 2,034 skilled professionals, catalyse the electronic manufacturing ecosystem, and create numerous indirect jobs.
- These projects are poised to strengthen India's position in the global chip supply chain, with the first made-in-India chip expected later this year.
