A video of a Ryukyu spiny rat, a nationally designated natural monument, eating a crab was filmed in Kunigami Village, Okinawa Prefecture. Toyo Tokuchi (63), a manager at the nationally designated Yagaji Wildlife Sanctuary, filmed the video on his smartphone on the night of the 12th. Tokuchi said, "They are omnivorous animals, but this is the first time I've seen them catch and eat crabs instead of plants or insects."
