VIDEO - Fire in Gironde did not progress, this Wednesday 29 July despite "seven rather virulent fires in the day, three of which are still active", announces the prefect of New Aquitaine and Gironde, Sophie Brocas. "They remain in the places where the fire has spread."
On the ground, firefighters continue their battle against the massive fire that has ravaged the Gironde region. Alongside volunteers, they are responding to flare-ups and relying on significant aerial resources to prevent the flames from reaching areas that have not yet been affected.
The return of the very strong heats and the sea winds have stirred up the fire on Wednesday. An important recovery north of the seaside resort of Lanton has notably mobilized the firefighters.
In a few hours, on Wednesday, July 29, the firefighters and volunteers, supported by the Canadair and Dash drops, were able to stop the fulcruming progression of the flames threatening homes on the southern front of the fire.
