- On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs warned any UN-initiated world map must depict Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh according to India's official map. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated 'inaccurate' or 'misleading' depictions of these Union Territories are unacceptable.
- The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution Friday to promote equal-area map projections that preserve the relative sizes of continental landmasses. Sponsored by Togo, the measure aims to address cartographic representation, particularly for Africa.
- MEA spokesperson Jaiswal clarified India voted in favor, emphasizing the resolution 'neither adopts nor authenticates any particular world map' nor addresses political cartography, including international boundaries.
- The resolution received 164 votes in favor. Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia, and Ukraine abstained, while the United States cast the lone vote against the measure.
- India maintains its position on sovereignty and territorial integrity is 'clear, consistent and non-negotiable.' The country continues to monitor how international bodies depict its sovereign territory, including the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
