French FM in Algeria to reset bilateral relations

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced, after a visit to Algiers on Sunday where he met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the desire of the two countries to "enter a new phase" after the serious crisis in their bilateral relations.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Sunday his will to "rebuild a partnership of equal, serene and calmed", after eight months of diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

The head of French diplomacy announced on Sunday, after a meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the will of the two countries "to enter a new phase" and to "turn the page" of recent tensions.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot is in Algiers on Sunday, at the invitation of the Algerian government, to plan ways to shore up bilateral relations which have been strained in recent months.

Jean-Noël Barrot spoke for more than two hours with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his visit to Algeria on 6 April. The guard of the French Seals, Gérald Darmanin, is expected to meet his Algerian counterpart shortly.
