The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention confirmed the criminalization and arbitrary detention of the five Tseltal defenders of San Juan Cancuc, who since 2022 have been detained in the State Center for Social Reintegration for Sentenced Persons (CERSS) No. 5 and were sentenced for crimes committed to 25 years in prison by the Judicial Branch of the State of Chiapas.
