Countries reach deal in autonomous arms talks
GENEVA — The 128 states party to a framework that regulates or bans weapons considered indiscriminate, or causing too many injuries, agreed on a document Saturday that could pave the way to international rules on autonomous weapons.
In its efforts to limit autonomous weapons systems – so-called killer robots – the UN has achieved its first success. After years of discussion, almost 130 states agreed on a definition of weapons in Geneva, as Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced on Saturday.
