- Bilyk told police he was recruited via Telegram by a Russian speaker who provided targets and payment for the January 2025 attacks. An investigation by the BBC and Hope not Hate identified the handler as Russian diplomat Evgeny Lyukshin, trained in "information warfare" by senior spies.
- This vandalism links to a wider Russian sabotage campaign targeting Sir Keir Starmer's property. Two Ukrainians, Roman Lavrynovych and Stanislav Carpiuc, were jailed in June for conspiring to carry out arson attacks using the same recruitment network.
- Chief Superintendent Rhona Hunt of the Met Police said, "We recognise that these incidents caused significant distress," emphasizing commitment to tackling hate crime. Bilyk is due for sentencing on October 19 at Stratford Magistrates' Court.
