Ukrainian drones hit Russia's largest refinery, in one of deepest strikes yet

Ukraine said the strike set fire to critical processing equipment at Russia’s largest refinery, which processes more than 22 million tons of crude a year.

  • On Monday, Ukrainian drones struck Russia's Omsk Oil Refinery, the country's largest, in what Kyiv's military confirmed as one of the longest-ranged strikes since the full-scale invasion began.
  • The refinery processes around 23 million metric tons of oil annually and accounts for about 10% of Russia's total refining capacity, supplying a significant share of domestic gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel.
  • Modernized FP-1 unmanned aerial vehicles hit the ELOU-AVT-11 primary crude oil processing unit, which Special Operations Forces described as the plant's 'most important installation.'
  • Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko acknowledged that drones reached the northern industrial hub, stating that emergency services were dealing with the aftermath.
  • This attack marks the last of Russia's 11 largest gasoline producers to be targeted, as Ukraine's escalating campaign against refineries has caused fuel shortages across the country's 11 time zones.
