Ukraine Unveils 'Flamingo', Claims Serial Production of 3,000-Km Cruise Missile
Ukraine’s domestically produced Flamingo missile carries a 1,000-kg warhead and aims to enhance strategic strikes against Russian military and industrial targets, officials said.
- On August 18, 2025, Associated Press photographer Efrem Lukatsky published the first photo of Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missile at a Fire Point facility, showing the missile in assembly.
- Earlier this year, Ukraine tested a domestically developed ballistic missile described as bigger than ATACMS, reflecting a missile program refined over the past years amid slow Western aid.
- The Flamingo cruise missile features a six-meter fixed wingspan, reaches speeds of up to 900 km/h, and uses satellite and inertial guidance, with a 1,000-kg warhead over 3,000 km.
- Military analyst Pavlo Narozhnyi said the Flamingo missile could significantly damage Russian depots, factories, energy nodes, and airfields deep inside enemy territory, given its one-ton payload.
- Next week, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced large-scale grant programs for domestic explosives, drones, and rockets, with experts suggesting mass production could compensate for limited countermeasures.
