EBRD to Invest €1 Billion in Ukrainian Energy Sector This Year

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plans to invest €1 billion ($1.1 billion) this year in Ukraine’s energy sector after facilities were devastated by Russian attacks.

The European Commission has transferred another tranche to Ukraine from the Ukraine Facility Fund. The total amount of support under this program has already reached 19.6 billion euros.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the funds would support Ukraine's macroeconomic stability, adding that total financial assistance under the Ukraine Facility has now reached 19.6 billion euros ($21.1 billion).

Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia, is dependent on support in its defence struggle, and the European Union is now transferring a further billion from an aid programme.

Ukraine will receive another €1 billion to support the energy sector, said Matteo Patrone, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Bloomberg reports.
